HARRISON TWP., Pa. — Pennsylvania State Senator Jim Ferlo and Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato today joined Harrison Township officials and Natrona Comes Together Association (NCTA) to break ground on the Natrona Community Park & Playground.
“This is an exciting new urban park and playground and a major investment toward improving the quality of life for the children and resident of Natrona and Harrison Township,” said Ferlo. “The creativity of NCTA and citizen input into the design and public art work make this project unique and sets a new standard in playground reconstruction.”
The recreational facility will include a band shelter, playground, two basketball courts and an art walk, which will allow for the display of artwork created by local children and visiting artists.
“What started as a plan to build a playground has grown into a community-centered recreational facility,” said Onorato. “The art walk and band shelter will provide artistic opportunities for the community, as well as public green space. The support of this project illustrates the solid partnership between the Commonwealth, County and Harrison Township.”
Allegheny
County provided a $201,000 Community Development Block Grant for the $565,000 project. Senator Ferlo helped to secure $364,000 in funding from the Commonwealth. NCTA also raised more than $27,500 for future development of the park.
Construction began immediately. The playground is expected to be completed later this year while the rest of the recreational facility is scheduled to be done this spring.
NCTA is a non-profit group that depends on volunteers to work together for the good of all Natrona residents.
